Whether it’s screaming child you want to avoid or people in general, the lesser-known Caribbean island Tobago is well known for R and R, luxury and paradise stakes.
The Caribbean is synonymous with sun, sea and sand. With more than 700 islands, islets and reefs to choose from, deciding which island to visit may seem slightly overwhelming. If your main criteria is sun then you will be a happy traveller whichever island you choose. If however, you don’t want to follow the normal tourist trail and instead want unspoilt beaches and minimal human interaction, yet amazing food and scenery then Tobago may just be the right place for you. The Island
Tobago is less well-known than a lot of the other Caribbean Islands but equally as impressive. Whether you are a sun-worshipper or more an active water-sports type, there is something for everyone on this island. Blissful bays and the classic Caribbean, laid-back island lifestyle are in abundance. On the eastern side of the island there is rugged terrain with volcanoes covered in dense jungle vegetation. Tobago also boasts the oldest protected rainforest reserve in the Western Hemisphere.
To really get to know Tobago, I would advise hiring a car so you can visit the many beaches on offer as well as drive inland to see the stunning landscape.
The Accommodation
Whilst there are boutique hotels available on the island, these are few and far between and it has not succumbed to the imported glitz that is so prominent throughout the Caribbean. There are also small, quaint local outfits which ooze charm. Tobago has a large assortment of beaches. Pigeon Point is Tobago’s most vibrant and buzzy beach.
